Jiu-Jitsu and Dungeons and Dragons – Do Nerds Like Them Both?

Well Jiu-Jitsu folk, it will come as no surprise to you, that we here at jiujitsufiles.com are psyched out of our minds about statistics. We just love us some good data to analyze, and so naturally we were pumped when we discovered that there might be a correlation between people who like to train Jiu-Jitsu and people who play Dungeons and Dragons. If you say, hey, I train Jiu-Jitsu and I also play D&D, well then that proves our point. And if you say, what is D&D, then we say, you should try it!

I was at class a while back, sitting on the mats after sparring, when someone mentioned that they played Dungeons and Dragons. One by one, like gophers popping out of their burrows on the prairie, everyone there began to say, I play D&D too! And this got me to thinking that there may be a correlation between Jiu-Jitsu and D&D. My hypothesis is simply, that nerds like Jiu-Jitsu, and nerds also like role playing games. Groundbreaking scientific work, I know.

But of course we don’t want to start making broad unfounded claims about how the universe works, with out some statistically significant conclusions from an appropriately large data set. And for this, my fellow nerds, I need your help. Next time you are at class, please take a quick survey, and then email me the data (location, date, how many people surveyed, how many out of those surveyed have ever played D&D).

And even if the Jiu-Jitsu nerd has never played D&D, I would be willing to bet my gym dues that they participate in some other equally nerdy activity, like playing obscure video games, or collecting Pokémon cards. And to be clear, we wear the badge of NERD proudly upon our gi lapel, for all the world to see, because the nerds are interesting, and interesting people is what makes the universe so beautiful. Go nerds!
