This is a common debate I hear at every gym I go to. Of course you need to wash your jiu-jitsu gi frequently, everyone can agree on that. The jiu-jitsu belt is a different story. Some people say wash it, some people say never wash it. I am going to tell you the truth, the correct version, right here, right now. Never ever wash your belt. End of story.
Why should you never wash your belt, you ask? Well you should never ever wash your belt for two reasons. Reason number one is that washing your belt will prematurely age your belt and make you appear more skilled than you actually are. You could be a relatively new blue belt who washed their belt every time they wash their gi. This would make the belt worn and ragged and make you look like a veteran when you are not. Wear and tear on a belt is earned on the mats and not in the washing machine.
Reason number two is a very scientific and absolute reason. You should never wash your jiu-jitsu belt for the simple reason that washing the belt ruins the magic. Don’t ruin the magic. Don’t wash your belt. Debate settled.
